The Fifth LACTACON was held on 07.08.22 at Padmashree Dr. D.Y. Patil Medical College, Pimpri. It was organized by Yashoda Advanced Human Milk Bank: Comprehensive Lactation Management, Training and Research Center of Dept. of Pediatrics in Association with POGS, IAP Pune, BPNI Maharashtra, and IMA PCB. The inauguration was done at the hands of Director IQAC Dr. P. Vatsalaswami in the presence of Dean Dr. J. S. Bhawalkar. Information pamphlets were released on the occasion. Over 235 delegates that included interns, lactation consultants, surgeons, paediatricians and obstetricians attended the conference.

Various topics were discussed in this conference like
1) Hiccups in breastfeeding
2) Aap ki Adalat
3) Importance of first 1000 days
4) Role of obstetrician in breast feeding
5) Baby friendly hospital initiative 10 steps
6) Sexual health & breast feeding
7) Helping hands in breast feeding

This was followed by a brain storming session on Hiccups in breastfeeding. There were keynote addresses given by –
1) Epigenetics and Human milk – Dr Sanjay Prabhu
2) Breastfeeding without birthing – For Surrogate mother by Dr Mangala Wani
3) Navigating on milk supply – Dr. Zinal Shah
4) Human milk Banking – Dr Anne Grosslein (online) Oslo, Norway.

In the afternoon another brainstorming session on Human milk banking was conducted in which Dr Sudhir Malawade, Dr. Rebecca, Dr. Gazal Khan and Dr. Shradha Salunkhe participated. Short talks on IMS act, Nutrition during breastfeeding, adequacy of Breast Feeding and role of Ultrasound during breast feeding were delivered. The highlight of the day was “Nukkad” performed by undergraduate students of Padmashree Dr. D.Y. Patil Medical College. The last session of the day was ‘Aap ki Adalat’ (mock court) where senior paediatricians Dr. P. Jog, Dr. Jayant Navrange, Dr. Arti Kinikar and Dr. Sharad Agarkhedkar took the role of prime accused. Dr Umesh Vaidya- Neonatologist presided as Judge and Dr. Amruta Desai was the government pleader. Several important issues were discussed like consent, charges, procedures etc. At the end of the very innovative discussion everyone felt the need for an amendment to the IMS act in order to avoid the misuse of Human milk. The Master of ceremony was Dr. Sampada Tambolkar. Dr. Shailaja Mane gave the vote of thanks to conclude the day’s proceedings. President POGS, Dr.Parag Biniwale, Dr.Mangala Wani, President BPNI, Dr.Parag Gaikwad, President IAP Pune, Patron IMA PCB, Dr.Dilip Kamat, President, Dr.Vijay Satav, Dr.Daksha Nirhale, President IMA PCB WDW, Dr.Shubhangi Kothari, VP IMA PCB and EC members graced the occasion and participated in the conference actively as Chairpersons and Panelists.
